FIVA (the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens) is a worldwide non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection, preservation and promotion of historic vehicles. Established in 1966, it is active in more than 80 countries, representing millions of historic vehicle enthusiasts around the globe. Since 2017, FIVA has been a partner of UNESCO with consultative status, representing world motoring heritage and related culture. website – FIVA.org
FIVA’S mission is: Protecting, preserving and promoting world motoring heritage; protecting the technical, design, cultural and sociological aspects of motoring history from being destroyed, lost or forgotten and preserving and documenting for future generations.
The FIVA organisation in 2016 celebrated 50 years representing historic motoring history.
FIVA adopted a thirty year minimum age for the definition of an historic car from January 1st, 2010. The IVVCC decided to adopt this in a modified form to avoid exclusion of owners of cars that were over twenty five years old but not yet thirty. We adopted a cut-off date of 31st December 1984 which remained in place until December 2014, after which the thirty year rule will apply on a rolling basis (or whatever late rule supersedes it, if any).
