Road tax

Vehicles over thirty years old are entitled to VinVet road tax (currently (2011) €52/annum for cars and €24/annum for motorcycles),  which rates were set by the 2011 budget.   The age cut-off is currently a rolling one.  This special road tax classification was introduced under the 1991 Finance Act (No. 13 of 1991), Section 75, (3)a.

NCT

Only vehicles first registered prior to 1st of January 1980 are exempt from the NCT.  This is a fixed age cut-off --- it is not a rolling entitlement.
